§ durations of breathing

I had always wanted to make a film about Redacre in Mytholmroyd. I had the fortune to know two of the boys who roamed these woods with Ted Hughes digging for the grave of an ancient Briton.

In 2011, I exposed a single roll of b&w super 8 film in a silver Nizo camera. I used a method frequently employed by Derek Jarman (in order to extend the limited time duration of 50 feet of film). The shooting sequence was done in-camera, with no wasteful editing. The camera was set to expose at six frames per second. Playback would be at three frames per second. Time is out of joint. The flicker and grain of film is now a part of a haunting experience. Each shot was informed by my own breathing while holding the camera.
